Kon\u00edk, a half-timbered house in Hr\u00e1dek nad Nisou, is an example of folk architecture typical of the Upper Lusatia region and the adjacent part of North Bohemia. Old postcards from Hr\u00e1dek nad Nisou show that these houses shaped the character of the village in the past. Today, however, Kon\u00edk is one of just a few surviving examples of half-timbered buildings. It is located on \u017ditavsk\u00e1 Street at number 215. The unusual name of the house comes from the name of the last owner, P. Kon\u00edk.<\/span><\/p>

The first floor of the house was erected in the post-and-lintel technique. Together with the roof, it is based on a half-timbered structure. The ground floor consists of a room and a hall built as a framework structure (room and hall). The second part of the ground floor is somewhat untypically half-timbered, supporting the interior of two rooms. In the back part of the hall there was originally a black kitchen. The house is covered with a gable roof with pediments over wooden gables.<\/span><\/p>

According to the dendrochronological research and the date preserved on one of the ceiling beams, the house was built in 1812, i.e. at the time when the largest number of such buildings were built in Hradek. Konik is owned by the Hr\u00e1dek nad Nisou council. In 2014, the first stage of renovation was carried out, aimed to save the building in its early 19th-century form – employing traditional craftsmanship and making use of as many original parts as possible. In 2018, the second stage was carried out, during which the reconstruction of the external and internal parts of the building was completed.<\/span><\/p>

The reconstruction of the half-timbered house Kon\u00edk can serve as an example of successful renovation and a model to follow for the owners of other half-timbered buildings.<\/span><\/p>

The house is currently used by the Czech Tourists\u2019s,Club, with craft workshops organised there.<\/span><\/p>
