The museum exhibitions are housed in historic one-story houses with arcades, rare examples of former burgher buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries, serving at the same time as an apartment, a craft workshop and a sales outlet.<\/span><\/p>

The topics of the permanent exhibitions presented here are: the history of Vrchlab\u00ed, local crafts and industry, folk art and handicrafts. Artistic craftsmanship is represented by examples of Karkonosze glass and local watchmaking. Among the Karkonosze folk art, special attention was paid to glass painting, craft-made nativity scenes, wood carving and the production of figurines of the legendary Karkonosz – the ruler of the mountains. Exhibitions related to “ordinary”, once frequent crafts feature the specialised workshops: carpentry, shoemaking, saddlery and basketry.<\/span><\/p>

An area of craft production typical of the Karkonosze region, presented in the form of museum warehouses open to visitors, is the furniture industry. End of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, saw the development of a characteristic Karkonosze type of folk furniture, mainly in the painted style. They are distinguished by colourful painted decorations, depicting flowers in vases placed in the panels, as well as figural and animal motifs, most often on a blue, marbled background. The form of these furniture items is also noteworthy: wardrobes, chests, boxes, cradles, racks for bowls and for other kitchen dishes – all those were modelled on the equipment typical of the upper classes, with specific local transformation of the original designs.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
