The Regional Museum in Jawor is housed in a former monastery complex of the Observant Franciscan order, built in the years 1489\u20131492. In its activities, it builds upon the pre-war tradition of the Heimat Museum Jauer, established in 1929. The post-monastery complex, comprising a hall church and a monastery with preserved medieval layout of the old rooms, has been a museum since 1962. It houses collections important for the material culture of Lower Silesians: ethnographic, archaeological, craft, natural, artistic and military. The collections are presented as part of the following permanent exhibitions: Gallery of Silesian Sacred Art, Gallery of Transferred Wall Paintings (polychromes moved from other objects to protect against devastation), “Crossing the Impossible. The Church of Peace in Jawor on the UNESCO World Heritage List”, “Jawor – a new chapter in the history of Mercedes-Benz”, “Robbing knights in the principality of Jawor”, “The land of Jawor in prehistory”, “Old craft”, “Viridarium. The monastery garden”, “Jawor gingerbread”, “Secrets of the Jawor armory” and “Treasury of the Sudetes”. Also noteworthy is the Passion cycle of late Gothic polychromes, located in the church and the cloisters on the ground and first floors, made around 1520 – the largest set of paintings of this type in Poland and one of just several of that kind in Central Europe.<\/span><\/p>

The museum provides a rich educational offer on various topics, harmonised with school curricula and adapted to the individual needs of educators. It can be used by both school groups and other tours. Classes include e.g. weaving, glass painting, archaeological and gingerbread workshops. Workshops entitled “Old Weights and Measures” and “Knights, Princesses and Unicorns” are in preparation. Classes are conducted by very experienced museum staff, employees, who make the message more attractive with modern audiovisual materials. Presentations of some topics are accompanied by city tours. The educational mission of the museum is additionally realised by organisation of two annual competitions: historical and artistic.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
