The Regional Museum in Luba\u0144 was established in 1975. Initially, it collected materials on military settlers migrating to the Western and Northern Territories of Poland. In the 1990s, it expanded its scope and was transformed into a more general institution dealing with the region\u2019s history. Currently, the museum has two facilities: the main office, located in the Town Hall building, and the Department of Mineralogy and Geology, housed in the Bracka Tower.<\/span><\/p>

While visiting the museum, you can learn about the history of Luba\u0144 and the surrounding area. At the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, the town was famous for its brewing. The local beer was even served in Piwnica \u015awidnicka in Wroc\u0142aw. However, the greatest wealth for the city was brought by the linen industry. The linen makers’ guild was established in the 1570s, and in 1577 the town council approved the guild’s statutes. Linen production gave a boost to trading operations, and consequently Luba\u0144 became an important urban centre at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. The prosperity of the local crafts reached its peak at the end of the 17th century. Rich merchants lived and worked in Luba\u0144, including Karl Gottlob Kirchhoff, who dealt with the textile trade. He built the so-called “Dom pod Okr\u0119tem”, which was once the centre of the canvas trade. Currently, it is one of the most valuable architectural monuments of the city. Daniel Andreas Fischer, one of the most eminent local merchants active in the 18th century, was also associated with Luba\u0144. Another important development was the production of handkerchiefs – it started in the next century and brought quite a fame, which the town enjoyed both before and after World War II.<\/span><\/p>

Currently, the following permanent exhibitions devoted to the history of the city and region are presented in the main museum building: “800 years of Luba\u0144”, “History of the region”, “Arts and crafts” and “Erna Brauns Room”. The exhibits include documents related to the history of the city, a collection of ceramic vessels from the 15th and 16th centuries discovered under the building\u2019s foundations, artefacts related to merchant and weaving trades and to handkerchief factories, a collection of pewter dishes and a collection of paintings by local artists.<\/span><\/p>

Bracka Tower<\/span><\/p>

The Bracka Tower is the oldest, most impressive and undoubtedly one of the most interesting buildings in Luba\u0144. From its top you can admire a breathtaking panorama of the city and the surrounding area. Inside, the permanent exhibition “Minerals of the Western Sudetes” is open to the public.
