The history of Chojnów museology dates back to 1906. The museum itself was opened in 1908 in the renovated Weavers’ Tower. In 1933, the collection was moved to the Zamek Piastów Legnicko-Brzeskich (former Castle of the Legnica-Brzeg Piast dynasty). Currently, the collections are gathered in four sections devoted to archaeology, ethnography, history and art. The artefacts include militaria, numismatic items, medals, paintings, prints, drawings, furniture, glass, ceramics, locksmith and blacksmith products, pewter products, medieval and modern documents, as well as a rich collection of Renaissance stonework.
The most valuable artefacts include old sgraffiti donated by the Provincial Conservator office in Legnica. Their transfer from the façade of the Schellendorf manor in Zagrodno was carried out by the art restorer Mieczysław Stec. Equally valuable are the Renaissance tiles discovered during archaeological research conducted in the castle in the years 1990–1995.
