The DOTEK Ecocentre (House of Heritage Restoration, Ecology and Culture) in Horni Maršov is a modern cultural and educational centre located in the eastern part of Karkonosze. The history of this former vicarage dates back to the 16th century. Today, the building offers visitors a glimpse not only into the past, but also into the future.
The preserved historical interiors of the ecocentre create a unique opportunity to try out some traditional crafts in authentic settings. Cooking in the black kitchen according to old Krkonoše recipes is popular. The vicarage kitchen itself was used until the 20th century, and its splendour is evidenced by the soot that was removed from the inside of the chimney during the building’s modernisation and mixed into the current plaster. Another traditional craft of the Karkonosze mountains was weaving. Visitors can try out the whole process of flax processing – from working with the brawn and hackle, through combing the flax on the comb, to working with the spindle, reel and looms. During the year, regular visitors of the DOTEK ecocentre have several opportunities to learn about practically forgotten crafts, such as knitting, felting and others. The newly completed exhibition – “How to Live and Survive in Nature and Civilization” – is open all year round.
Ekocentrum DOTEK belongs to the association Rýchory – SEVER, Brontosaurus Krkonoše. Its aims are to strengthen the bond between man and the surrounding nature, preserve cultural heritage and promote attitudes conducive to sustainable development.
