The Municipal Museum in Dvůr Králové nad Labem falls into the category of local history museums – it provides permanent exhibitions on the town history, the history of the textile industry in the region and on the tradition of Christmas decoration craft.
The presentation of pivotal points in the town’s development is complemented by the “How time flows” exhibition, showing how everyday objects, such as drinking glasses, money, toys and cameras, have changed over time.
Further on, visitors can learn about the local textile factories in the past, and about the technology of fabrics printing. Thanks to the original machines, supplemented with a range of templates, fabric samples and a blueprint workshop, they can see how not only printers, but also designers and engravers worked. The museum has prepared a small printing workshop, where you can use hand-made forms to decorate the fabric (or the T-shirt you bring) according to your own idea.
Another interesting exhibition, interactively acquaints visitors with the tradition of making Christmas decorations from glass beads. The first part presents all manufacturing stages – blowing beads from glass tubes, dyeing, decorating, assembling and packing into boxes. The second part of the exhibition is a kind of showroom, presenting products that have been made in this region from the 1930s to the present day. The exhibition is full of surprises that we discover when opening individual drawers and cupboard doors, experiencing similar feelings as when opening a box with Christmas decorations.
